A Fresh Start? (Date Published: 27.02.03)

With the season just weeks away the London Broncos are once more preparing for a great season.  With both ground and financial security secured for this season things could not be looking brighter for a club that two years ago was on the verge of going down.
Once again they have strengthen their squad and travelled down to Australia for some pre season training.  Whilst on paper the squad looks strong and like it is a play off team the questions looms around the Broncos whether they can actually make it.  Every year we hear talk of this year it will happen, however so far the supporters have yet to see this.  This year I think could be different however; this is because for the first season I can remember London’s first game will not the Challenge Cup or the Super League but it they have a couple of warm up games before the start to make sure the team gels well.
I hate to say it but once more I think the Broncos will under achieve if they have their traditional slow start.  Its well known on their day London can upset the biggest teams.  However last seasons London’s big problem was the lack of inconsistently in the team.  One week they would beat the champions and then go and lose to the tea m placed bottom of the league.  This inconsistently is the overall downfall for the Broncos I feel and in previous years they have flourished against the higher placed teams but struggled with the lower placed teams.
With London having the easier fixture list and one of the strongest squads the question is going to be, ‘can London motivate themselves enough to beat the lesser teams?’  Of course the immediate answer would be yes but in previous years London have gone against this and failed.
One things for sure this season is going to be hot and I can’t wait for it to get underway and lets hope 2003 is the year the Broncos go all the way.
